As I write the first blog for Nautilus Solutions, I have come to the honest realization that the problem is the why. You see, there are three main problems in healthcare, and Nautilus is perfectly equipped to combat each one.

First, unless you’ve been there, it is impossible to fully understand and comprehend the depth of pain in healthcare today. Nurses care for doctors and their patients; doctors care for their patients and answer to administrators, and the administrators keep the hospital running as best they can. With 20+ years of experience, I have worked my way up, observing, practicing, and pivoting in several areas of various hospital types.

The second problem is that patients want education about their illness or their loved one’s illness and an honest-to-God conversation with those treating them. And most healthcare professionals want to deliver that type of care to their patients. For instance, as a social worker and nurse, I often enjoyed speaking with my patients, but I have also witnessed the cost, as I would end up staying much later to document, report, and help co-workers trying to do the same. This also strains the healthcare professional’s family, as they often miss significant personal events.

Third, the insularity of healthcare is indisputable. The God complex is trained for some and comes more naturally to others, but either way, no one wants to admit that they need help, especially from an outside entity that appears to care more about money than meeting their genuine needs. Technology can help our healthcare organizations, elevate the patient experience, and alleviate employee burden. However, we must find a better way, and this is a challenge that I am ready, willing, and able to engage in.

I have seen it, dealt with it, and am still dealing with it. You need someone who refuses to give up and hangs in there until the end, which is why Nautilus exists today. At Nautilus, it is not about the money but the lives we enrich along the journey.
